Frequently Asked Questions

How does the application process work?

Interested ministry leaders can apply through the website application portal. If there are more applicants than available spaces, priority will be given to full-time ministers of small congregations in York University’s general service region. Volunteer, part-time, and youth ministry leaders may be admitted if space allows. Applicants for the first round will be notified by April 2 and you will be contacted to schedule a discovery session.

What is the assessment and do I have to take it?

The assessment is free for participants, and you can learn more about it here. It’s not required but is strongly recommended. Once accepted, participants will receive a link to take the Working Genius assessment.

How many sessions do I get?

Once admitted, participants will schedule a discovery session before their first coaching session. This allows the coach and participant to get to know each other and review coaching guidelines. After the discovery session, each participant will receive three coaching sessions.

How much does it cost?

There is no cost to participants. The Inspire coaching program is funded by the Lilly Endowment and offered through York University. Learn more here.

Are the coaches from Churches of Christ?

Yes. The primary coach is a lifelong member of the Churches of Christ and served 11 years as a minister.

When do workshops take place and do I have to participate?

Workshops are optional but highly recommended. Typically, they will take place before coaching to prepare participants for the sessions. However, since we want to start coaching immediately, the first round of coaching will begin before the workshops. The first workshops will be in 2026, near York University’s Equip Conference, and will be free and all participants in the coaching program will be invited.

Is the program open to ministry volunteers?

Yes, but full-time ministers will be prioritized.

Can I apply for coaching in the program if I was not admitted in the first year?

Yes.

Can I apply for coaching in subsequent years if I was admitted and participated in a previous year?

Yes, but priority may be given to first-time participants.
